Private addiction treatment & psychotherapy · United Kingdom & online

Addiction treatment and psychotherapy for people whose lives don’t fit a standard programme.

Discreet, highly individualised care for people whose personal or professional circumstances call for exceptional privacy, flexibility and continuity, including senior leaders, public figures, professionals in regulated roles and their families.

Founded and led by psychotherapist and addiction specialist Sander Tubbergen. You work with him directly, from the first confidential conversation through treatment and, where appropriate, longer-term care.

One clinician. One personalised plan. One continuous relationship.

Your first conversation is with Sander, not an admissions team. Monday to Saturday, 10am to 8pm.

An open door onto a lit private corridor, seen from a stone threshold.

Who CLAIREN is for

You may recognise some of this.

CLAIREN is not designed for everyone. It is for people for whom standard routes into treatment have proved impractical, too exposed or too short.

  • Your position makes privacy essential.

Your role, profile or professional registration means treatment has to be handled with the same discretion you would expect from your lawyer or private bank.

  • Your life doesn’t pause for treatment.

Leadership, travel, a family business or caring responsibilities mean a residential programme or a fixed weekly slot isn’t realistic.

  • You’ve tried treatment before.

Therapy, private treatment or rehab helped for a while, but the change didn’t hold once the structure ended.

  • It’s rarely only one thing.

Drinking, drug use or compulsive behaviour sits alongside anxiety, low mood, trauma, burnout or strain in close relationships.

  • You’re worried about someone else.

You’re a partner, family member or advisor who has seen that something is wrong and needs a confidential place to start.

If CLAIREN isn’t the right setting, Sander will say so directly and, where possible, point you to someone who is.

Why CLAIREN exists

Care built around complicated lives, not the other way round.

Conventional addiction treatment and psychotherapy are rarely designed around complicated lives. When privacy, schedules or public profile matter, getting the right care can become a problem in itself.

Many people come to CLAIREN having already tried therapy, private treatment or residential rehab. Usually the issue wasn’t motivation. The care was too standardised or too fragmented, or it ended too soon to create change that holds.

CLAIREN was created to close that gap, bringing addiction treatment and psychotherapy together in one continuous relationship with one specialist, adapted to each person and their circumstances.

Privacy, discretion and continuity aren’t added features. They are the principles the clinical model is built on.

The model

Care that works like a private clinical retainer, not a series of appointments.

Four principles shape how every engagement is designed, delivered and adapted.

01

One clinician, throughout.

Sander personally leads every case and works with a deliberately small number of clients at any one time. No rotating team, no handovers, no telling your story twice.

02

Treatment and therapy together.

Addiction is treated alongside what sits underneath it: relationships, pressure, history and the role the behaviour has come to play. One plan, not two services.

03

Built around your life.

Sessions take place online or in person at a suitable private location, scheduled around work, travel and family. Clinical need sets the structure, not a timetable.

04

Continuity beyond the active phase.

The same clinician stays involved as treatment moves into relapse prevention and continuing care. The frequency changes; the relationship doesn’t.

If psychiatric or medical input would strengthen your care, Sander helps arrange it and keeps it coordinated within your plan.

Scope of care

What CLAIREN treats, and where it works with others.

CLAIREN works with

  • Alcohol
  • Cocaine and other drugs
  • Prescription and over-the-counter medication
  • Gambling and other compulsive behaviours
  • The anxiety, low mood, trauma, burnout and relationship difficulties that often sit alongside them

Where other specialists are needed

CLAIREN provides psychological treatment. It does not provide medically managed detox, prescribing or emergency care. Where these are needed, Sander can help arrange an appropriate referral and continue working alongside it where clinically suitable.

Not sure whether your situation fits? A first conversation is the simplest way to find out.

How engagement works

Three phases. One relationship throughout.

Each phase is agreed separately. There is no commitment to all three, and the next step always depends on your assessed needs and your choice.

Phase 01

Consultation

Clear clinical direction.

Three assessment sessions and a written Clinical Direction setting out findings, options and recommendations. A complete service in its own right, with no obligation to continue.

Phase 02

Active Treatment

Structured treatment, with support between sessions.

An initial eight-week course of individual treatment, regular check-ins and CLAIREN Connect. Sander leads your care throughout.

Phase 03

Continuity

Consolidation and ongoing support.

Less intensive psychotherapy as treatment steps down, with the same relationship still in place. Any ending is agreed together.

The first enquiry conversation is free of charge. Scope, fees and terms are confirmed in writing before care begins.

Confidentiality

Confidentiality is part of the structure, not a policy statement.

01

Privately funded.

No insurance claims, and no clinical information passes through insurer billing. Every engagement has written terms; a non-disclosure agreement is available on request.

02

A single point of contact.

Appointments, correspondence and coordination are handled by Sander. The number of people involved in your care is kept deliberately small.

03

Secure, limited channels.

Clinical information is handled under UK data-protection and professional requirements. Communication channels are agreed with you individually.

04

Disclosure stays with you.

Nothing is shared with employers, colleagues or family without your knowledge and consent.

Confidentiality operates within the safeguarding, legal and professional limits that apply to every UK clinician. These are set out in writing before care begins.

Sander Tubbergen, founder of CLAIREN

The founder

Fifteen years of clinical practice. Two decades of his own recovery.

Twenty years ago, an intervention and treatment at a private clinic in the UK changed the course of Sander Tubbergen’s life. Since then he has sustained his recovery and built more than fifteen years of clinical experience in psychotherapy and addiction treatment.

That experience produced a clear conviction: addiction is rarely a question of willpower. Understanding the person behind it, the pressures they carry and the purpose the behaviour has come to serve, is what makes change hold.

The person you speak to first is the person responsible for your care.

Begin

A clear way to begin, whoever starts the conversation.

Not every enquiry comes from the person who may enter treatment.

For yourself

You’re considering support for yourself.

You don’t need a diagnosis, a crisis or certainty about what happens next.

For a partner or family member

You’re the first to raise the concern.

Talk through what you’re seeing, whether treatment may be appropriate and how to start the conversation without turning it into a confrontation.

For advisors and family offices

You’re seeking guidance for someone you support.

A first conversation can take place without identifying the person concerned.

For referring professionals

You’re considering a specialist referral.

Where clinically appropriate, CLAIREN can work alongside an existing clinician rather than replacing them.

The first step

What happens when you get in touch.

  1. 1

    You speak to Sander.

Calls, WhatsApp and Signal messages are answered personally, Monday to Saturday, 10am to 8pm. If he’s in session, he will call you back at a time that suits you.

  2. 2

    A confidential first conversation.

Free of charge and without obligation. You talk through what’s been happening, and Sander gives you an honest view of whether CLAIREN is the right fit.

  3. 3

    An agreed next step.

That might be a Consultation, a referral elsewhere or nothing for now. Anything that follows is confirmed in writing first.

Questions

Before you call.

Do I need a diagnosis, or to be sure I have a problem?

No. Many people get in touch because something doesn’t feel right and they want an informed view. Working that out is part of the first conversation.

Yes. Partners, family members and advisors often make the first contact, and that conversation can take place without naming the person concerned.

Not without your knowledge and consent. CLAIREN is privately funded and makes no insurance claims. The limited legal and safeguarding exceptions are set out in writing before care begins.

Either, or a combination. Sessions take place online or in person at a suitable private location, arranged around your commitments.

CLAIREN doesn’t provide medically managed detox or prescribing. Where that is needed, Sander can help arrange an appropriate referral and, where suitable, continue the psychological work alongside it.

Private enquiry & professional referral

One private conversation is all it takes to begin.

A first conversation isn’t a commitment to treatment. It’s a confidential opportunity to speak directly with Sander about what has been happening and decide together whether anything should follow.
