Phase 02 · Treatment

Active Treatment

Individual addiction treatment, personally led. Continuity and support between sessions.

Understanding a pattern is an important beginning. Changing it means working with what happens in daily life, including the moments when familiar ways of coping become difficult to resist.

For adults whose assessed needs can be met safely through this service, CLAIREN Active Treatment combines individual psychological treatment with agreed between-session contact. Treatment begins only after the approach, intensity and any necessary medical or psychiatric involvement have been agreed. Sander Tubbergen leads your care throughout, with time to understand your circumstances, develop trust and help you put change into practice.

Treatment
Three 60-minute individual sessions each week
Between sessions

The relationship

A therapeutic relationship in which you can speak openly

Sander Tubbergen, founder of CLAIREN
Sander Tubbergen, founder of CLAIREN

Treatment needs room for more than a description of symptoms. It needs space to talk honestly about what the behaviour gives you, what it costs, what feels difficult to change and what you may not yet feel ready to give up.

You work with Sander throughout the active phase rather than repeating your history to a changing team. Your concerns, preferences and experience of the treatment help shape the work.

Trust is not assumed simply because treatment has begun. You are invited to say when something feels useful, when an explanation does not fit, and when the approach needs to change.

ABOUT SANDER →

Context

Treatment that considers the life you are actually living

CLAIREN is designed for executives, founders, business owners and senior professionals seeking substantial individual support with addictive behaviour. You may be maintaining your responsibilities while becoming increasingly concerned about the effort, secrecy or consequences involved.

Treatment considers the behaviour alongside the psychological, relational and practical circumstances around it. Depending on your needs, the work may include:

  • Understanding your patterns

Exploring what precedes the behaviour, what it helps you manage and what keeps it recurring.

  • Developing different responses

Working with urges, difficult feelings and situations in which your usual intentions become harder to maintain.

  • Addressing relationships

Considering the effects on trust, communication, boundaries and the people close to you.

  • Working with professional demands

Planning for travel, social obligations, workload and the transition between work and home.

  • Building support beyond therapy

Identifying relationships, routines and appropriate sources of help that can support change.

Professional commitments are taken seriously, but they do not determine what care is appropriate. The aim is a workable treatment plan, with honest discussion of any changes needed to protect your health and make that plan possible.

Structure

A clear rhythm, shaped around your needs

Where this intensity is clinically appropriate, the initial treatment plan includes 24 individual 60-minute sessions, normally scheduled three times a week over eight weeks. Session dates, any planned breaks and arrangements for missed or cancelled appointments are agreed before treatment starts.

  1. Understanding and reflection

Exploring the emotional and relational patterns connected with the difficulty, alongside your experience of treatment.

  2. Change and practice

Using addiction-focused work appropriate to your presentation, including practical ways to respond differently in relevant situations.

  3. Review and adjustment

Considering what helped, what did not and what needs attention next.

These are connected parts of treatment, not a fixed script for each appointment. The approach is selected according to your needs and the practitioner’s clinical scope, with specialist input where required.

Three sessions a week will not be appropriate for everyone. If a different frequency, method or service would better meet your needs, that is discussed rather than asking you to fit a fixed format.

Between sessions

Support between appointments

Some of the most useful work begins with what happens outside the therapy room. A difficult evening, an unexpected urge or a change in a relationship may be worth bringing into treatment before the next scheduled conversation.

Brief check-ins through CLAIREN Connect help you share what feels relevant without having to write a lengthy account. Sander reviews them personally and provides a short acknowledgement or relevant feedback within the agreed response window.

The purpose is to maintain contact and inform the work you do together. Check-ins are not a test of compliance, and their frequency can be adjusted if they become burdensome or unhelpful.

Clinical messaging arrangements

Check-in days
Monday–Saturday, at a frequency agreed with you.
Support hours
Monday–Friday, 09:00–17:00, and Saturday, 09:00–12:00, UK time.
Routine response
Messages are reviewed at scheduled points during the hours above, not continuously. Routine replies are sent by the end of the next scheduled support day; for example, a message sent after Saturday’s review window receives a reply by 17:00 Monday, except during agreed closures.
Outside these hours
Messages can be sent, but are not continuously monitored. Holiday and absence arrangements are agreed in advance.

This is routine therapeutic support, not live chat or emergency care. If you need urgent medical or mental-health help, do not wait for an app response; appropriate urgent-care arrangements are discussed before treatment begins.

CLAIREN Connect

Your private treatment space

CLAIREN Connect brings the practical parts of your care into one designated client space. It is tailored to support your work with Sander, rather than provide a separate self-guided treatment programme.

Within your treatment space, you can

  • Share brief check-ins

Bring relevant experiences, concerns and questions into the ongoing work.

  • Message Sander

Use one agreed channel for routine contact within the published support arrangements.

  • Access your current plan

Keep your treatment priorities, practical exercises and agreed next steps in view.

  • Prepare for sessions

Note what you would like to discuss and review useful material between appointments.

  • Keep important documents together

Access the summaries and resources prepared or selected for your treatment.

Access is by personal invitation once care has been agreed, your agreement signed and the agreed initial payment received. Full CLAIREN Connect access is available throughout Active Treatment and Continuity; there is no public sign-up.

The platform supports the therapeutic relationship. It does not replace individual sessions, provide automated clinical advice or offer continuous monitoring.

Progress

Knowing whether treatment is helping

Progress is considered in relation to your agreed goals, not simply attendance or the completion of app check-ins. Reviews take place at weeks two, four, six and eight, with changes made earlier whenever needed.

  1. Week 2Review
  2. Week 4Review and written summary
  3. Week 6Review
  4. Week 8Review, written summary and transition plan

Together, you consider changes in the behaviour and its consequences, your emotional wellbeing, relationships and ability to respond to difficult situations. Your experience of the therapeutic relationship is part of that review.

You receive

  • A shared Treatment Map

A clear working understanding of the difficulties, relevant patterns, protective factors and priorities.

  • A practical weekly plan

One or two relevant actions or areas of reflection, rather than a generic list of tasks.

  • Written progress summaries

Concise accounts at weeks four and eight of what has changed, what remains difficult and what the plan requires next.

  • A relapse-response and transition plan

Recognisable warning signs, agreed responses, support contacts and arrangements for the next stage.

If treatment is not helping sufficiently, that needs to be addressed openly. The response may be a change in approach or intensity, medical or psychiatric input, or a recommendation for a different service.

Wider involvement

Partner, family and specialist involvement

People close to you may have questions, concerns or support needs of their own. A brief partner or family orientation can be included where it is clinically appropriate and safe, you and the other participant agree, and the purpose and information-sharing boundaries have been discussed with everyone involved.

That conversation is not a course of couples or family therapy. If more substantial relational work is appropriate, a separate arrangement can be considered with a suitably qualified practitioner.

Medical or psychiatric input may also be needed to assess physical-health concerns, clarify a diagnosis or consider medication. With your agreement, CLAIREN can coordinate relevant information and referrals, while the specialist remains responsible for their own assessment and treatment.

Family participation is not assumed, and a partner is not expected to become your treatment monitor. External specialist appointments, formal family therapy and their fees are discussed separately before arrangements are made.

Duration

An initial course, not a promise that recovery follows a timetable

Eight weeks provides an initial structure for active treatment and review. It is not a guarantee that your needs will be resolved within that period or that every treatment approach can be delivered in that timeframe.

If a longer course is likely to be needed, the anticipated duration and cost are discussed before you begin. Any extension or change in intensity requires a further agreement.

Towards the end of the active phase, you consider what should follow: a reduction in frequency, continuing care if appropriate, a referral, or a planned ending. One 30-minute review, usually two weeks after active treatment ends, is included to discuss the transition and any emerging obstacles.

If you move into Continuity, full CLAIREN Connect access continues without interruption, including your existing shared plans, resources and documents. Your clinical contact changes to the agreed Continuity arrangements.

If no further care is agreed, routine messaging and full app access end on the agreed active-treatment date. Before treatment begins, we explain document access, record requests and how the included transition review will be arranged; access to existing records is not conditional on buying further treatment.

24 sessions of 60 minutes, including treatment reviews and transition work.

  • Between-session contact

Agreed Monday–Saturday check-ins and routine messaging within the published coverage and response arrangements.

  • CLAIREN Connect

Full client access throughout Active Treatment, continuing without interruption if you transfer to agreed Continuity care.

  • Treatment planning

Your shared Treatment Map, weekly practice plan and written summaries at weeks four and eight.

  • Family orientation

One conversation of up to 30 minutes, where appropriate and explicitly agreed, within the routine liaison allowance.

  • Transition support

Your relapse-response and transition plan, plus one 30-minute review usually two weeks after the active phase.

Where a separate assessment is needed, its price and the total expected initial cost are provided before you agree to either service. We consider appropriate recent assessment information so that existing work is not repeated unnecessarily.

External medical or psychiatric consultations, medication, tests, formal couples or family therapy, extended coordination and agreed travel or location costs are not included. Any additional work and charges are discussed before you commit.

Before you agree to treatment, we provide written terms covering payment dates, any minimum commitment, missed or cancelled sessions, early ending and the treatment of unused prepaid care. If the level or duration of care changes, we agree the revised scope and fee before further non-urgent work.

We can discuss whether this level of treatment is appropriate and answer questions about the commitment involved. The scope, fees and terms are confirmed before treatment starts.

Privacy

Privacy, with clear boundaries

Contact and information-sharing preferences are agreed at the outset, including how messages, appointments and documents should be handled. Information is not routinely shared with an employer, colleague, partner or family member without your permission.

Before treatment begins, we explain who may need access to information and why, including clinical supervision, any necessary administrative or technical access, and circumstances involving safeguarding, serious risk or legal and professional obligations. Private access to CLAIREN Connect does not mean anonymous care or an absence of clinical records.

Where another professional needs to be involved, the purpose and information to be shared are discussed with you, subject to those limits. Someone paying for treatment does not automatically receive access to your clinical information.

Questions

Questions before you begin

Do I need a CLAIREN Consultation first?

An appropriate clinical assessment is needed before active treatment is agreed. This may be CLAIREN Consultation & Clinical Direction, or a review of adequate recent assessment information with any further work required.

The purpose is to establish whether this service is suitable and what the treatment should address. An assessment does not commit you to treatment with CLAIREN.

Appointments and practical treatment work take account of your responsibilities where possible. The commitment is nevertheless substantial: three hours of individual sessions each week, with time for reflection, agreed practice and brief check-ins.

If work patterns are making the situation unsafe or preventing treatment from being useful, that needs to be discussed directly. The service does not promise that continuing every existing commitment will be appropriate.

Yes, where remote care is clinically appropriate. In-person appointments at an agreed private location may also be considered, subject to availability and any additional costs.

If you expect to travel or attend from another country, discuss this before arranging sessions. Suitability and applicable professional requirements need to be checked rather than assuming care can continue from any location.

It is important to be able to speak about this without fear of a shaming response. The first priorities are to consider any immediate risks, understand what happened and decide whether the treatment plan needs to change.

The response depends on your circumstances and may include additional medical or other specialist assessment. Urgent concerns should not wait for the next session or routine app reply.

We review whether the current level of care is appropriate. That may lead to changes in frequency, additional specialist involvement or a recommendation for another service.

Routine messaging is not a substitute for a different level of care when one is needed. Any additional service and fee are discussed in advance rather than assumed.

Continuing care or further active treatment can be considered according to your needs and preferences. The purpose is to agree the appropriate next step, not to maintain the same intensity unnecessarily.

Any further treatment and fees require a separate agreement. If you transfer to Continuity, full CLAIREN Connect access continues, with clinical contact delivered under the Continuity arrangements. The included transition review remains part of the initial course; its timing is agreed so it is not duplicated or lost.

Begin with a conversation

You do not need to have decided exactly what treatment should look like. A brief conversation with Sander is an opportunity to explain what is happening, ask questions and consider whether CLAIREN may be an appropriate next step.

The initial enquiry conversation is provided without charge. Any assessment or treatment is agreed separately before it begins.

CLAIREN Active Treatment is not an emergency service or a medical detoxification service. Enquiry messages and the client platform are not continuously monitored.
